One final check before sending to print.

A design that looks good on screen does not automatically work on a printed surface. Paper, materials, viewing distance and production conditions are part of the design. The final review should confirm both a sound file and the correct version of the job.

THREE POINTS TO KEEP

  1. Get technical requirements from the producer.
  2. Separate visual review from file inspection.
  3. Record the approved version clearly.

01

Confirm the dimensions with the producer

Confirm trim size, material, folds and the application method before production. A brochure and an outdoor surface require different preparation. Ask for the producer’s bleed, safe-area and color-profile requirements rather than applying one preset recipe to every job.

If a technical template is supplied, verify its version. A good composition prepared on an old template may collide with new cut lines. Include the dimensions and template name in the approval note.

02

Check the document and exported PDF separately

Adobe’s print-ready PDF guidance recommends checking links, fonts, bleed and preflight errors. Confirm the export page range and output profile as well. Include printer’s marks according to the producer’s requirements; they are not needed for every output.

Follow that technical inspection with another visual pass. A correct source document does not prove the export looks the same. Open the PDF again and inspect every page, edge and important image.

03

Read the information separately from the design

Verify headlines, prices, contact details and product codes against a separate list. Familiarity with a design can make a small typo easy to miss. Reviewing a page for its appearance and reading it for accuracy are different tasks.

Check variable information carefully across versions. Similar campaign files may carry different dates, branches or languages. A variant table and a clear approval owner make this stage easier to manage.

Working checklist

  • Headlines and spelling
  • Prices / dates / product details
  • Phone and website
  • Correct image versions
  • Page and language variants
  • Final approval owner
04

Close the handoff with one clear version

Identify the production file unambiguously. Separate approval PDFs from production PDFs in folder names and file names. Send dimensions, quantity, surface and production notes together with the final package.

If a change arrives after approval, send a new version and explicitly retire the old file. The goal of a final review is to make sure everyone is discussing the same file when production begins.

Reliable print delivery grows from clear preparation and approval habits, not a last-minute export setting.
